Spay and Neuter

Spaying and neutering is a surgical procedure that requires minimal hospitalization and offers lifelong health benefits. The incision is usually small, and will heal completely within 10-14 days. We understand the importance of this procedure, and do everything we can to keep the costs as affordable as possible.

Need financial assistance for spay and neuter? We often work with organizations that provide vouchers or partial payment for sterilization. Contact us for more information.

We offer low-cost TNR services for feral and community cats as well. View the chart below to see how fast one cat can multiply within a few years.

Unplanned litters can accumulate quickly! A female cat can already have a litter by the time she is less than 6 months old. One cat, and all of her offspring producing 2 litters per year, with 2.8 surviving kittens per litter can total 67 cats in only 2 years!

Benefits of Spaying & Neutering

1.  Altering your pet greatly reduces their risk of developing uterine infections and breast cancer in females and testicular cancer in males if done before 6 months old.

2.  Females will no longer have heat cycles that cause negative behavior or messy bleeding.

3.  Neutered pets are less likely to roam or escape in order to find a mate. Male dogs can smell a female in heat a mile away, which explains why 85% of pets hit by cars are not spayed or neutered.

4.  Neutered pets are better behaved and easier to train. They are not as aggresive and are more focused. Males are also less likely to mark their territory by urinating or spraying in the house.

5.  Spaying and Neutering helps fight pet overpopulation. Millions of healthy dogs and cats are killed in shelters every year simply because there are too many and not enough homes. Even if you never plan on breeding your dog or cat, unplanned litters amount for 85% of the animals in shelters.

6.  The cost of the procedure is less than the cost of raising a single litter of puppies or kittens. You will also save money from discounted liscensing fees each year for altered pets.

7.  They live longer, healthier and happier lives. On average, an unaltered outdoor male cat lives less than 2 years. This is due to infections and diesases passed from fighting with other male cats over territory and females, and from being hit by cars as they roam in search of other females to mate with.
